OCC: Masculine Card

Hi paper friends!


The sun is out in the Pacific Northwest and everyone around here is rejoicing. And that it is sunny on a weekend to boot is making it even sweeter.


This week on Our Creative Corner we're creating paper projects in honor of the men in our lives and their hobbies. I chose to make a card for Father's Day for my grandfather (here's to hoping he doesn't see this blog post). I know its a little early for Father's Day but being there's never any harm in being early, huh? He's a big traveler so I chose to use that interest in his life as the basis for my card.

First I took a piece of striped paper from a Lost and Found paper pad. I stamped a series of Martha Stewart travel stamp set. I love stamping on patterned paper but sometimes it can be hard to "take the plunge". The most challenging part, I think is knowing which ink color to chose for the desired effect. Typically what I do is take a small scrap and try a few different colors.

I used a few Papertrey Ink dies to cut the plaid and sentiment pieces and then layered them on top of one another. A colored eyelet and some twine and it's attached. 

Then I stamped the little Eiffel Tower, heat embossed it and then cut it out with some scissors. 

I added a little stamp on the inside just to bring some of the front to the inside.

OCC: Color Challenge

This week on OCC we're tacking a color challenge. Grey, red and black - a bit of a masculine color scheme to me.

But I have a problem.

Pretty frilly thank you cards. Done.

Flowery pink butterfly stamped birthday cards. No problem.

Masculine cards. Hard. Oye.

So this was my masuline card. My brother-in-law had his 30th birthday recently and this was the card I created for it. It was hard because I wanted to embellish. I wanted to distress. I wanted to glitter-fy. What I ended up doing was finding some grey and black papers in my stash. I had to mix and match on this but for the fact that there's three different paper makers on this card (five when you count the cardstock and sentiment banner), I really like how it came together.

I left the stitching a little long when I trimmed it. That was a happy accident. I liked how it looked so I left it.

 I also added some things on the inside to finish the card. I don't do that a lot but I probably should.

Congrats:Part Deux

So here I am, on this quiet Sunday afternoon, sitting on the couch with my Grady. He's heavily involved in Lego Batmat for Playstation and I'm trying to write and type while he narrates his play-by-play. Its kinda funny to see the little guy seem a little grown up-ish.

So today, here's my card from my "Congratulations" marathon card making. Paper Crafts is hosting their Gallery Idol and they are accepting cards with congratulations themes. This one is for a relative who will be getting it soon. I didn't realize how much pink I had until I tried hunting around for masculine papers. I actually had to go buy some when I figured out that I was going to need a guy card.

I'm actually going to put this on Card Patterns too.

Gotta go help the kid get through his video game!
