OCC: Color Challenge

This week on OCC we're tacking a color challenge. Grey, red and black - a bit of a masculine color scheme to me.

But I have a problem.

Pretty frilly thank you cards. Done.

Flowery pink butterfly stamped birthday cards. No problem.

Masculine cards. Hard. Oye.

So this was my masuline card. My brother-in-law had his 30th birthday recently and this was the card I created for it. It was hard because I wanted to embellish. I wanted to distress. I wanted to glitter-fy. What I ended up doing was finding some grey and black papers in my stash. I had to mix and match on this but for the fact that there's three different paper makers on this card (five when you count the cardstock and sentiment banner), I really like how it came together.

I left the stitching a little long when I trimmed it. That was a happy accident. I liked how it looked so I left it.

I also added some things on the inside to finish the card. I don't do that a lot but I probably should.

Play along with us this week at Our Creative Corner and use this week's color pallet as your inspiration and don't forget to check out the other DT blogs to see how they've incorporated these colors into their projects!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Holly! Wow! your masculine card came out beautifully! I love the texture you added, and the different pattern papers sewn together, how clever and fantastic! (I'm guilty of using a million different products, too). I love the pop of red on the inside of the card, as well. Great card! I know your brother-in-law loves it too!
    Have a safe trip!
    hugs, sharon

  2. Great Masculine card Holly!!! Love the texture on here!!

  3. Holly, this is mascu-tastic! (I know it's not a real word but it seemed perfect for your card!) Love the mix of patterns and the stitching is an awesome detail. Great card! Hugs! :)

  4. Holly, this is fantastic! The perfect mix of masculinity and coolness. I love that you used different patterns, which are unified by similar colors and the stitching that is on each one. I also need to stamp the insides of my cards more often! Hope you have a fabulous week!

  5. This is great, Holly! Don't you love the ones (okay, after you hit a break through of some kind) that really challenge you? You've rocked out on this masculine card. Great job!

  6. Wow! This is a perfect masculine card! The different patterns work so well together. Love the red stitching! Don't you love those happy accidents?

  7. Your masculine card came out perfect, Holly! I really like all the textures and patterns in the blacks. And that pop of red is wonderful, as is the stamping on the inside of the card! Terrific work!

Hope you are having a great week!

  8. You've done a wonderful job on this masuline card. I like the bit of sewing on it!

  9. This is a wonderful masculine card! I love the texture of the black circle paper and the red stitching is a really great touch for added color. Sorry it took a while to get my comments here - crazy week!
